He was the husband of 65 years of Phyllis A. (Snow) McCarter. Born in Medford, he was raised in West Roxbury and was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School. Dale was a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving honorably from 1953-1956. Upon his discharge, he began working as an automotive electrician, using skills learned during his Army training, a trade he continued throughout his 22 years as a Police Officer for the Town of Stoughton. During his tenure as a police officer, he studied Criminal Justice and graduated from Massasoit Community College in Brockton. Dale continued his work as an automotive electrician well into his retirement from the Stoughton Police Department, along with serving as a Constable for the Town of Stoughton for many years.

Dale was a member of the Stoughton Police Patrolman's Union, Local 447 and the Rising Star Masonic Lodge. He was a founding member of the Stoughton Association of Exceptional Citizens (SAEC), serving as a volunteer for many years. An avid Celtics fan, he also enjoyed playing basketball and racquetball and golfed well into his later years. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

Growing up in Stoughton I remember officer Mccarter as the Norman Rockwell caliber. He was always there for guidance and advice to the youth of our community. To the Mccarter family, my deepest sympathies and may Dale rest in peace.

I am so very sorry to hear of Mr. McCarter's passing. He was a good friend to our dad; Detective Jerry Galizio; for years. Such a nice man and a wonderful family. May he find rest and peace in Heaven.
