It was a joy for Samantha and I to be in Helen's company. she had an endearing way of letting you know she enjoyed being with you. She was quick to laugh, even at her own expense, and she was unpretentious. Not a phony bone in her body. One of my most enduring memories of Helen occurred at our last class reunion. Samantha and I were part of a group having dinner together. We all chipped in to pay our share when the bill arrived. Helen, who collected the money, held the bill in her hand. She turned and said that I had put in too much, and she gave me some money back. It was a small courtesy. But revealing. Sixty years prior in our yearbook, the following words were written about Helen: "Small courtesies sweeten life."
Helen was true to herself. Her life was a sweet life of extending small courtesies to others. We cherished her friendship, and we will miss her.

One of SHS Class of 1958 most beautiful--and most talented--classmates, and a classmate who made a positive contribution to many lives throughout her excepional nursing career. All of the male members of the class had a difficult time forgiving Russ for taking Helen out of circulation at such a young age. However, Russ, you were forgiven by all of us long ago. From all I have read and learned about your lives together, the two of you had a very special relationship and enjoyed life to the fullest. My sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of a special person.

To Russ and family, our deepest condolences on you loss. Helen was a blessing to everyone who ever met her. Her grace and love of life were her trademark. Remembering the years of joy we had with her in MYF and SHS. We have a special connection to Russ and Helen because Jan and I started dating in High School at the same time as they did. Blessings and love from Howie and Jan Churchill.
