Tribute & Message From The Family

Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Gene by adding your memories and photos.

Eugene Charles "Gene" Fogarty passed away on Sunday October 4, 2020 at age 85 surrounded by family. Gene was predeceased by Kay, his beloved wife of 59 years, who passed away in August. Gene was raised in Dorchester Lower Mills by his mother, Louise, grandmother, Lucy, and aunt, Marie. He was a graduate of Boston English and served four years in the United States Air Force. Gene was a well-respected sales executive within the Orthopedic Division of 3M for many years before retiring in 1995. Gene was a longtime resident of Stoughton and West Dennis and a faithful parishioner at St. James in Stoughton and St. Pius X in Yarmouth. He loved all sports, especially baseball, where he excelled as a left-handed pitcher, turning down an offer to sign with the Cincinnati Reds. He spent many years coaching youth baseball, ice hockey, and softball in Stoughton, earning the praise of players, parents and opposing coaches. Gene loved nothing as much as his wife, children and grandchildren and his happiest times were when the entire family was together on holidays, vacations or at his beach house on the Cape. Gene was perennially positive and upbeat and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, former colleagues and all those who were fortunate to know him.

Gene is survived by his children, Ken and his wife Kim of Chestnut Hill, David of Quincy and Christine Baekey and her husband Geoff of Beverly. He was the cherished Puppa of Jake and Amanda Fogarty, Brianna, Tavish and Quinn Fogarty and Kyle and Brooke Baekey. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Katie and by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Church, 560 Page St., Stoughton on Friday at 11:30 AM. Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton prior to the Mass from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Gene's memory may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.

Gene was our neighbor in Section 18 row 2 at Fenway Park. I looked up to him as a medical professional,
as I was starting my career at JNJ. He was always nice and jovial. I looked forward to seeing him and his sons Ken and David. He set a great example of a being a terrific father and positive person. Best wishes, David Engwall

So sorry to hear of Gene’s passing. Many nights at Fenway sitting beside him Ken and David talking baseball was a thrill. Knowing that if I didn’t know the answer to a baseball question I could ask Gene or one of the boys was all you could ask for. A special person sitting in a special place will always be part of our lives.
Miss that but grateful we had it.

Kenny, David & Chris: I was heartbroken when I heard the news of your Dad's passing. My memories of the many weekends crashing at your parents' house in West Dennis during college are etched in my mind. The warmth and kindness both your Mom & Dad showed me made me feel almost a part of your family. While these coming days will be tough, I hope that, in time, you will gain some perspective and realize how amazing your Mom & Dad really were. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I work in the Covid capital of the northeast (Newark, NJ), I cannot attend either Gene's wake or the funeral Mass but please know that Cathy and I are thinking of you and your families. God bless.

Kenny, David and Christine, my heart goes out to all the family. You three and your children were blessed with your wonderful father and mother. David and I had such great times with your parents and I will never forget them as I will never forget Gene and Kay.

Mr. Fogarty,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USAF during the Cold War. Millions of Americans slept safe at night because you and your fellow Servicemen stood ready to defend our Country. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Dear Ken, David and Christine. So sad to hear about the passing of your dad. You were all great neighbors for so many years in Stoughton and then again on the Cape. Wishing you peace and I will keep you in my prayers.
