Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Ron by adding your memories and photos.

Ronald Petrelli, 78, died peacefully Monday, January 11, 2021, at his home, after a period of declining health. Ron was born in Boston's West End and was raised and educated in Charlestown. He was a 1960 graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School and then attended Northeastern University. He was a member of the Air National Guard. In 1971, Ron married Marjorie S. Medland at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lynnfield, and together they spent almost 50 years of marriage. In 1972, they moved to Stoughton to start their family. He worked for Datel Systems which became Murata Power Solutions in Mansfield for over 35 years as a Sales Engineer, retiring in 2008. Ron loved martial arts and held a brown belt in Judo. He enjoyed teaching Judo to kids with his son. After retirement he practiced and taught Tai Chi. He was an active member of the Stoughton YMCA. A lover of animals, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking at the Blue Hills and camping in the White Mountains. He was the life of the dance floor at all weddings/parties. His greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son David Petrelli of San Francisco, and his daughter Laura Suwena and her husband Wayan of Walpole. He was the devoted "Papa" of Julianna and Kayla Suwena. He was the brother of Richard Petrelli and his wife Christine and the late Carol O'Brien. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, and his cat Axel.

Due to Covid restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later time. Donations in Ron's memory may be made to the Friends of the Blue Hills, 695 Hillside St., Milton, 02186 ( or to the Home for Little Wanderers, 10 Guest St., Boston, 02135 ( ).

I was so sorry to hear that Ron passed away. I knew him from the Forever Fit class at the Y. After class, a few of us would play a game where two lines would face each other and bat a soft ball back and forth while each line of players trying not to let the ball get past their line of defense. I liked having Ron at the end of the line on my team because his reach would often keep the ball from getting past us. My condolences to his family on their loss.
