Joseph M. Ennis, Sr., a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Monday, March 7, 2022, at the VA Medical Center in Brockton after a short period of failing health. Born and raised in South Boston, he was a graduate of Gate of Heaven High School in South Boston. After his graduation, he entered the US Army and proudly served for two years, including one year in Germany. After his Honorable Discharge, he returned home and married Margaret Gibson, a marriage that lasted over 40 years, until her death in 2002. In 1962, they moved their young family to Stoughton and he has been a resident of the town since. Mr. Ennis worked as a Typesetter for the Boston Globe for over 35 years, retiring in 2001 and was a member of the Pressman's Union. He was a parishioner of St. James Church and previously the Our Lady of the Rosary Church, both in Stoughton. An avid reader, he was a sports fan and a fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. He was a dedicated family man, enjoying spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Ennis is survived by his children; Joe Ennis and his longtime companion Marie of Stoughton, Michelle Sweezey and her husband Edward of Easton, Elizabeth "Betsy" Gorman and her husband Mark of Pembroke and Marcia McCloud and her husband Mark of West Bridgewater. He was the grandfather of Nick and Nina Ennis, Kyle, Kraig and Korey Sweezey, Andrea, Olivia and Michaela Gorman, and Taylor and Casey McCloud. He was the brother of Louis Ennis of Bedford, Francis Ennis of FL, Elizabeth "Betty" Connerty of Plymouth, Margaret "Peggy" Macozek of Braintree and late Mary Hanley and Catherine "Kitty" Walsh. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Visiting Hour will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, March 12, 2022 from 9AM-10AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
